Spring 2024 TENEO Gatherings:

1/22/2024 - Book Study: "Hosanna in Excelsis: Hymns and Devotions for the Christmas Season"
by David and Barbara Leeman

Description:
This winter we read through a devotional for Christmas hymns. Each day gave a short description of the people who wrote the text and tune of the daily hymn. For this session, please prepare by finding a favorite hymn or story from the book and investigate a little deeper. We will share some of these stories and reflect on the Christmas season by listening to favorite recordings and discussing the music. This will be an informal session, so feel free to attend even if you did not read the book!

Join us as we define and discuss each of these ideas in detail.

Please prepare for this event by reading this article about Calvinism.

3/4/2024 - 4+ Views of Creation

Description:
How the Church interprets Genesis varies greatly. Does Genesis teach an earth, universe, and humanity that is only 6-10 thousand years old? Does it teach a very old existence of humanity? Or, does it not teach anything about the age of this world? What may be even more important than the age of the universe is how we as the body of Christ interacts with the text of Genesis.

Ideas are as numerous as grains of sand and try as we may, we often have limited time to pursue those which interest us. It is good for us to reflect not only on the ideas, but on how they affect us as individuals.

4/29/2024 - Book Recommendations & Discussion

Description:
This will be an informal session dedicated to sharing our favorite books (and yours!) to close out the Spring. Please feel free to make recommendations and bring your favorite books. Maybe it's something that you read that inspired you, or a recommendation that helped you through a difficult time. Maybe this is your favorite heavy theological text, but it could also be a narrative work of fiction that you enjoyed.

We will also be signing up for our summer book reading. This year, we have chosen to read and discuss just one book: The Everlasting Man by G.K. Chesterton. This is the book that inspired C.S. Lewis to leave his atheism behind and was a common recommendation by J.R.R. Tolkien. The current plan is to read this gradually and discuss biweekly. We will aim for one chapter a week, meaning that we discuss two chapters at a time. This will be from June through August. Please sign up for a $5 copy.
