Frequently Asked Questions
We've put together a list of anticipated questions for people exploring TENEO. If you have any questions or concerns outside the scope of this page or what you have experienced on our website, please feel free to contact us to discuss.
Who is TENEO for?
We encourage a wide variety of people to attend TENEO, even if you feel that you are not "an intellectual". This includes almost everyone who is open to new ideas.
- Trained seminarians
- Curious individuals with no formal background
- Doubting Christians
- College students
- Working professionals
- Local church members
- Skeptics who are open to discussing Christian topics
- Anyone else!
I feel like I'm not smart enough.
TENEO is intended to be a discussion group for anyone, regardless of what you know or don't know. If you are interested in discussing new ideas and having honest discussion about a variety of topics, we would be happy to have you! In fact, you'll probably find that many of us "aren't smart enough."
I don't feel comfortable talking in front of a group of people, can I still attend?
Definitely. You are under no obligation to talk or discuss with the group. Sometimes we are just here to learn and grow.
I don't know anything about the topic this week, can I still come?
Of course! That's why we created TENEO. It's a way for us to learn new things together in a space where it's ok to say "I don't know".
What denomination is TENEO?
TENEO is intentionally not a part of any denomination or church organization. While our members certainly have different faith backgrounds and are members of local churches, we encourage critical thinking and discussion from most perspectives.
Is TENEO part of a church?
No, we are made up of members of various church traditions with a variety of theological perspectives. We center around essentials, such as The Apostles' Creed. Our goal is to engage with many perspectives, challenging one another and growing together.
The Bible says that my faith is enough, why should I care about all of this?
We agree. Our goal is not to replace faith with reason. Our faith is motivated by reasoning, and TENEO aims to strengthen our understanding of complex ideas that make up our beliefs.
